How To Pick The Best Rifle For A First-Time Hunter

The hunter will always reach the point wherein he has to purchase his first rifle. It does not have to be a random rifle. It has to be the rifle that he will use to hunt. There are actually a lot of options. In fact, if you would check the market right now, you may be surprised by the number of hunting rifles and hunting rifle optics that are available.

Some Types or Rifle Action

Before you start picking out the best rifle for your needs, you first need to know some details about the rifle in general. There are three types of options that are available:

  • Bolt-Action Rifle

  • Break-Action Rifle

  • Single-Shot Rifle

Out of the three, the single-shot rifle is the most recommended for true beginners especially teenagers who are just starting to hunt. This will stop them from accidentally firing after they have used up the ones in the chamber. Single-shot rifles can also be used by adults especially those who are already skilled enough to know how to hit the prey humanely.

Rifle for Deer Hunting

A lot of people would like to search for a rifle that will allow them to hunt deer. Deer is the most obvious prey because it is large which means that it will be easier to hit. Plus, it does not need a lot of power in order to get hunted humanely. The right rifle especially one from AGM Global Vision can be enough for this purpose.

With this thing in mind, how can you possibly pick the best rifle when there are so many that are being advertised for deer hunting? There are certain things that you need to consider so that you can make the best decision.

Quality

The quality of the rifles that are being released in the market has fortunately increased over the years. There are more brands that are releasing their own models. They need to make sure that they are the best so that people would choose their own products over others. They are not very expensive too anymore, especially when compared to how much rifles cost in the past.

Take note that quality is sometimes in the eye of the beholder. If you think that a rifle is made out of good quality materials and if you feel that it would be perfect to go hunting, then this is the best one that you should pick.

Fit

There are some first-time hunters that seem to forget that this is another important factor that should be considered. Can you imagine if you would purchase a rifle and it does not fit you? It will not be comfortable to use at all. Firearms, like the rifle, can be adjusted in order to work well with you. You would like to have something that you can definitely use whenever you hunt.

The best thing about technology now is you will be given various details regarding how to find the rifle that will come with the perfect fit. Just remember that it does not mean that just because it fits well with someone, it will also fit you well. There are some differences in the things that people may need.

Comfort

A rifle should be like shoes. They should be comfortable whenever you use them. Can you imagine if you would be using a rifle that will make you hurt every time you use it? You can purchase online but most experts will still recommend that you go to an actual store and try carrying the rifle before you purchase anything. There are some factors that will let you know if the rifle is not comfortable:

  • It is too light

  • The rifle is too heavy for you

  • You do not understand the mechanisms of the rifle.

When the design of the rifle is not ergonomic, it will not help you at all. Similar to the things that you will purchase, you will immediately know if the item is just right for you.

Conclusion

You may also have your own personal preferences when choosing the right rifle. Do not be hasty in making decisions because you have all the right to check out the different products that are available before you make the right choice. Most rifles right now are not very expensive but you would still spend money on purchasing the right one. Make sure that the one you will purchase is worth your while. Always purchase the rifle or even a gun that fits you best.

I think that we are living in the golden age of rifles, and deer rifles in particular. Many of the big gun makers are making very, very good rifles,in various calibers, that can be had for around 300$. I am thinking the Ruger American, the Ruger 783,the Savage Axis, and the Mossberg Patriot. All very good guns, all available in a couple of different calibers that are useful for many different types of game. Some come with a scope already mounted. And I have seen some of these guns listed on sites like Buds for under 300$. You could do much worse than to pick up any one of these guns in either .308, or .30-06, get a 1.5-6 X 40 scope mounted on it, and you would be ready to hunt all but the largest and most dangerous game on the North American Continent. Not that an .06 could not take a large grizzly bear, but with that kind of critter, you really want a gun that will put a very heavy, solid bullet moving very fast, into the vitals, and also trying to break heavy shoulder bones at the same time. Not something for the novice. But I am sure that many people have used the old lever action Winchester 30/30 on grizzly, and swear by it. Of course, they use the .303 British in Canada to kill a lot of moose, and nobody would think that is a powerful enough cartridge either.
