    Hi Aaron,

Just like any athlete, it’s important to do “dry land” or extramural training to keep your skills sharp when you’re any kind of officer in a tactical unit or role. Whether it’s SWAT, police departments, counter-terrorist teams, etc.

I have a passion for tactical training and simulation. Airsoft is HUGE for tactical training (and fun) as you’re essentially using replica weapons to train. When I was in ROTC 15 years ago we used paintball to help us practice strategy and tactics, but now that airsoft is around with weapons that are physically similar to their real-life counterpart, airsoft is the next real-life training similar. The USAF use it, SWAT teams use it, and I’ve read that even NATO uses it as well for war games.

Another tech gadget that is great for tactical training are games like VBS3 (Virtual Battlespace 3) and its civilian counterpart ARMA 3. All branches of the US military and NATO use VBS3 to train soldiers and keep their tactics and strategy practiced. They give you a view of the entire battlefield or a first-person view of a fireteam member.

When you’re in a tactical unit or role and you obviously can’t shoot bad guys for practice every day, tech and gadgets like these are the next best thing!

If you’re looking for anyone to write a guest post for your blog on a topic like this, please let me know. I have a passion for MilSim and tactical training. Thanks!
