Texas Concealed Handgun Training

There’s no denying that this is an extremely dangerous world we currently live in and, at least in the United States, that’s reason enough for carrying a concealed weapon to protect you and your family.

Fortunately in the state of Texas, laws are on the books that allow for, and regulate the carrying of, concealed firearms on a fairly liberal basis.

Now officially called a “License to Carry,” the long-time law sets certain eligibility criteria for carrying concealed firearms. Items that could disqualify you from carrying a weapon include having one or more felony convictions, having criminal charges pending against you and having defaulted on any taxes, student loans and/or child support payments.

The last item above pertains not only to handgun licenses, but actually to any state-issued license, as an incentive to pay those debts.

While Texas residents are generally allowed to carry licensed weapons in most areas, there are exceptions which include federal buildings, schools, public sporting events and correctional facilities, among others.

Now comes the point of this writeup today, and that’s pertaining to the when, where, how and, most importantly, the why in regards to undergoing handgun training, and what you’ll get out of it when you find a class that’s to your liking.

And with violent crime on the rise, we certainly encourage you to seek out a handgun training class and learn how to better protect yourself and those around you.

Concealed handgun classes aren’t meant to train students on how to actually operate a handgun, as it’s understood that those attending this type of class already know some of the basics involved with the proper use of firearms.

But if you are familiar with firearms, either via one-on-one training or by taking a prior class on the subject, concealed handgun training classes will teach you how to gain approval from the Texas Handgun Licensing Program. Gabe Gonzales, a private detective and firearms instructor working for ACES Private Investigations of Dallas says “We typically do 2 classes a month, in 2018 alone this has risen to almost 30 people a class and 4 monthly.”

“The course focuses on the proper safety and use of firearms, and how to care for and discharge your weapon in a responsible manner” says Gonzales. Classes generally run from 4 to 6 hours, and include both classroom instruction and handgun qualification testing.

Thousands of Texans are victims of violent crime every year, a statistic that’s on the rise and figures to be for the foreseeable future.

You never know where violent crime could occur next, and when you or someone you love could be a victim. But if you’ve taken gun safety and/or concealed carry courses, and are carrying a weapon, you can decrease the likelihood of that many times over.

Don’t be a victim! Take the first step today toward greater peace of mind and personal safety by taking a concealed carry course and becoming the latest in a long line of armed and protected Texans.
