Baylor Senate Approves Concealed Carry on Campus

On Thursday, the Baylor Student Senate passed a resolution to allow concealed handguns on campus.

Under Texas law, students with a concealed handgun license can store a firearm in a locked vehicle on a street or driveway, or in a Baylor parking lot or parking garage.

This bill would allow students, staff, faculty and guests with concealed handgun licenses to carry their weapons on campus.

The university administration opposed to the measure in a statement.

“We continue to believe that concealed handguns on our campus would introduce potential challenges to campus safety overall and make more difficult the work of our public safety officers,” according to a Baylor University statement.

The bill will now go to the student body president for approval. If he vetoes the legislation, the senate can overturn it with 2/3 of a vote.

The Baylor administration will have a final say to make this a policy at the university.
