Clearing a Squib in a Fight

I centered my front sight on the first target and fired off two quick shots, turning to and engaging the second threat I did the same. Only this time the trigger did not respond to my finger and the sight picture was way off. I turned my 1911 toward me with the barrel raised and noticed that it was not in battery and my barrel was bulged and split.

Not only had I fired a squib, but managed to put another round right behind it, resulting in the catastrophic failure of my Springfield M1911A1.
