City Council Passes Resolutions For Gun Control, Immigration Reform

As lawmakers consider legislation regarding gun control, the Austin City Council has passed a resolution endorsing efforts to reduce gun crime.

The resolution cites the Newtown, Connecticut massacre and states that council members support President Obama’s efforts to develop a plan to reduce gun violence. The council is urging state and federal lawmakers to pass legislation that would require background checks and limit the size of ammunition magazines. They’re also asking the City Manager to look into collecting data about the source of guns involved in Austin crimes.

“I think all of us were struck by the tremendous tragedies that happened at Sandy Hook elementary and the need for leaders across the country to stand up and say that we’re committed to doing what we can do to reduce gun crime and take actions to keep our children and community safer,” Council Member Kathie Tovo told FOX 7.
