Tanker Nails It

First, let me quote what is becoming an increasingly irrelevant bit of American history:

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed

That, friends is the infamous Second Amendment to the United States Constitution. For you historically challenged, it’s one of the Bill of Rights, a part of the Constitution’s original document.

And to further explain, this statement does not say that the government GIVES you this right. No, the framers said that you already HAD this right, the ‘unalienable rights’ thing in the Declaration of Independence, and that the founding document of the American Federal government were advised by specific language that the government had no powers to take any of that right away. In historical perspective, a mere sixteen years had passed since a revolution’s opening battle where the ‘government’ (Britain) had attempted to disarm a population in the Massachusetts colony.

That’s history.

Today, we’re being told by many that the Second Amendment is about the right to hunt, self-defense, recreation, and further drivel. History says they’re wrong.

We see ‘reasoned’ discourse that says we don’t need more gun laws, that we need to enforce the ones already there. These people think they’re on OUR side. They’re wrong, too. History doesn’t lie.

The document says “shall not be infringed“. That means, folks, NO background checks. NO 4473′s. NO concealed carry permits.
