Winchester PDX1 Defender

I used Winchester PDX1 Defender .357 Magnum, fired out of a Rossi 971. My target was several phone books (9 inches thick), soaked in water for 18 hours. Distance from shooter to target was 9 yards.

Just to make things a little interesting, I also taped a quarter to the front. I was really hoping to make a donut out of the quarter, but it didn’t work out that way. At 9 yards, the quarter was completely covered (and then some) by the front sight post.

I recovered 5 of the 6 rounds, as one managed to angle down and bury itself deep in the dirt. Those that I was able to recover all penetrated approximately 8.75″ — none fully penetrated the 9″ stack of wet phone books.

I have to say that I am really impressed with the expansion of the PDX1 Defender ammunition. I would not feel under-armed utilizing this ammunition in a self defense gun whatsoever.

I’ll let the images speak for themselves. Click any image to see a larger version.

Close ups of the individual rounds…

As can be seen, all expanded spectacularly — with the exception of round 1. There’s a good reason for this… that is the round that hit the quarter.

How did the phone books hold up? You be the judge. Looks like that would cause massive tissue damage if you ask me. There is a 3 round grouping on the left, a 2 round grouping on the right, and one lone round at the bottom.

  2. As a Jewess in the US, I can only state that NOW is the time for all REAL Americans to put our 2nd Amendment FIRST! Criminals like the slasher of Smith’s Market in Salt Lake City are stopped by FIREARMS, not kind words. And remember that America wasn’t won with a registered gun!
