Eric Holder’s incompetence defense is also a lie
ast week, it was revealed that there is now a confirmed paper trail showing that Attorney General Eric Holder was informed about “Operation Fast and Furious” at least as early as 2010. This, of course, directly contradicts his sworn testimony on May 3 (2011) to the House Judiciary Committee, in which he stated under oath that:
I’m not sure about the exact date, but I probably heard about “Fast and Furious” for the first time over the last few weeks.
A “few weeks” vs. 10 months–that’s well beyond any reaonable degree of uncertainty of the exact date. The only logical conclusion here is that Holder committed perjury with that statement.
Not so, says Holder himself. Sure–now we have proof that he was sent briefings on the operation in July 2010, but we don’t have proof he actually read them. From Politico:
The attorney general said the memos sent to him were weekly reports that summarize investigations and other pending policy issues from across the department. He did not say explicitly whether he reviewed any of the relevant reports, but he noted that they typically total “over a hundred pages†each week. He suggested he doesn’t read them thoroughly and sometimes may not see them at all.
