Charges Filed in Shooting of 11-Year-Old Girl

Police have filed formal charges against a Cleveland man accused of shooting an 11-year-old girl.

Charles DuBose, 55, was charged with Felonious Assault after police said he shot Ivhan`e Merritt, 11, Friday about 10:40 p.m.

Shamarra Hall, 10, said she, Merritt, and other children were playing in front of his home on East 118th Street when DuBose became upset that one of the children walked across a part of his lawn, then another bumped his car.

“And then that’s when he had went and shot and then we started running and then that’s when my friend Ivhan`e goes “I got shot, I got shot,” and we thought she was playing until she fell,” Hall said.

Neighbor Debria Ford said she heard the children playing, then a gunshot.

“And as I’m grabbing my keys I’m dialing 911 because I hear one of the kids say she’d been shot, she’d been shot. She clenched on to her side and then when I came outside she laid out in the middle of my driveway and I was talking to 911, you know, and I was trying to console the little girl, let her know,” Ford said.

Ivhan`e’s mother, Aquadea Merritt, said the bullet grazed her daughter’s liver.

Not to dismiss the horrendous actions of this obviously disturbed man, but what the hell were a group of 10 and 11 year old children doing out playing in the street (unsupervised no less) at 10:40 PM?
