Soldier and wife found dead at Fort Hood

Fort Hood is investigating the death of a soldier and his wife, who were both found dead of apparent gunshot wounds on Sunday in their on-post residence, officials said Tuesday.

Sgt. Michael Timothy Franklin, 31, and Jessie Ann Franklin, had a 6-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son, officials said. The children are being cared for by Fort Hood’s child protective services.

Michael Franklin, of Middletown, RI, joined the Army in 2005 as a motor transport operator and deployed to Iraq from October 2006 to January 2008 and again from February 2009 to January 2010.

At the time of his death, he was assigned to 115th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division.

He received an Army Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with one oak leaf cluster and the Army Good Conduct Medal.
